As the weather warms up and we enter our spring growing season, now is the perfect time to give some extra attention to your plants and trees. Just as they require trimming and grooming to stay healthy and look nice, your plants and trees also benefit from periodic fertilizing. Although you may do it as often as you wish, we do not recommend fertilizing before March or after October. One of our favorite fertilizers is Treeland Nurseries All Purpose Garden and Lawn Fertilizer, which is specially formulated for our tough Arizona soil. For those with newly planted trees, or who just want to increase the growth and density of their trees, we also recommend using tree fertilizer stakes.
Along with fertilizer, you may also want to invest in pre-emergence for your landscape. This is a product developed
to seal soil and help prevent weeds from growing in your yard. It comes in both liquid and pellet form and both work well. Pre-emergence does not harm existing plants, but helps prevent germination of anything that blows off of other
properties. This can be purchased at any nursery or irrigation store.
Finally, spring is a perfect time to check all your emitters and make sure they are not plugged or missing, so that all plants and trees continue to get the proper amount of irrigation. We also recommend that you change your backup battery in your irrigation timer on a yearly basis. This will help hold your watering programs, should the power ever go out, and is especially important as you begin taking spring and summer vacations. Missing more than just a few days of watering can dramatically effect your plants and trees and can be very damaging.
If you have questions or simply want to revamp your yard after the recent winter frosts, give us a call at 480-857-0153, we'd be happy to help!
